The CEO of Aster Integrated Marketing, Tolu Medebem, said that for 8years, the Advertising Practitioners Council of Nigeria didn’t have a council.
She made this revelation during a plenary session at the TheFLEA Awards Conference & Awards, where she was one of the panelists.
While dissecting the topic Innovation-Driven Policy Making in the Digital Age during the second session of the event, Medebem revealed that this was possible because members revolted against the appointment of a non-practitioner to head the council.
“My industry is governed by APCON and for like eight years, we did not have a council because the council was first put together after the last one was dissolved, they put in someone who had absolutely no knowledge of advertising. So all the advertisers put up a fight.
“So if you wanted to do something, you can’t do it because there was no APCON. But recently we just got new executives who are led by someone who has been in the industry for over 25years.”
For her, once in a long time, the advertisers’ council now actually has a round peg in a round hole.
