‘Epo t’emi da?’ Party hosts in Sanwo-Olu’s trouble after Fuji musician, Malaika, reveals content of souvenirs (Video)

It is normal for guests at events to get party souvenirs after the merriment is done. It’s a way the party organisers appreciate the guests for gracing their occasions, especially when the recipients buy ‘aso ebi’, a uniform clothing materials meant for a particular event.

This practice is mostly common among the Yoruba people and the size or contents of these souvenirs are sometimes a signature of how wealthy the hosts are.

However, a particular souvenir seems to have caught the attention of the Lagos State government as notice is out to hunt down the organisers of a party recently held in the state.

During one Erelu Okin Foundation installation party, where a popular Fuji musician, Malaika, played, the hosts were seen distributing 10ltr jerricans filled with liquid substance with the sticker of the event being held.

While many were wondering what the content was, Malaika quickly provided an answer in a short video clip that has gone viral.

“Epo mi da? Won ni pentiro lo n pin, lelelele,” the musician asked jokingly in Yoruba language. This means ‘Where is my own fuel? I was informed they’re distributing petrol.’

The revelation drew different opinions from many Nigerians. While some put the blame on the federal government for its ineffectiveness in combating the biting fuel scarcity in the country, others were of the opinion that sharing an easily combustible substance at a party is a crime against public safety.

Lagos State government seems to agree with the latter and hence commenced hunt for the party organisers to fish out the culprits.

According to a release made available to Freelanews and signed by the Commissioner for Information & Strategy, Gbenga Omotoso, investigation has commenced on the ‘reprehensible’ action.

“The attention of the Lagos State Government has been drawn to a video showing kegs of petrol being handed out as souvenirs at an event Centre in Lagos. The video has gone viral on the social media.

“There is no doubt that this action is dangerous and can lead to loss of lives and property. It is blatantly against all safety measures in such places.

“The Lagos State Government through the Safety Commission is investigating this matter and will ensure that all parties to this reprehensible action are made to account for it.

“The safety of lives and properties of Lagosians and visitors remain a top priority to the Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu administration. We, therefore , advise that actions that can lead to loss of lives and properties be avoided,” he wrote.
