Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang has vowed to bring those responsible for a deadly attack in Gero community, Jos South Local Government Area, to justice, saying security agencies are tracking suspects and have recovered useful evidence.
Mutfwang gave the assurance on Tuesday, October 27, 2026, during the swearing-in of newly appointed special advisers and honorary special advisers at the New Government House in Little Rayfield, Jos.

The governor confirmed that an attack occurred on Monday night in Gero, leaving seven people dead.
He described the incident as tragic, noting that it happened close to the state capital.
“Let me use this occasion to sadly inform you that we had another attack yesterday. It is sad that this happened not too far away from the city, in Gero, behind Gero settlement, and it led to quite a number of casualties,” he said.
Mutfwang urged residents to remain vigilant and support security agencies by providing timely and credible information that could help prevent further attacks.
He acknowledged that security personnel could not be present in every community, stressing that effective intelligence sharing was essential to enabling them to respond promptly to threats.
“The security forces cannot be everywhere; they can only cover some places,” the governor said, adding that delays in receiving information could prevent security personnel from reaching affected areas in time to save lives.
The governor expressed confidence that those responsible for the latest attack would be apprehended, saying investigators had recovered evidence they were pursuing.
“By the grace of God, we will continue to do our best to apprehend the perpetrators. This particular attack left some bits of evidence that we are trailing,” he said.
He also provided an update on efforts to prosecute suspects linked to earlier attacks in Plateau State, particularly incidents in Kombun District of Mangu Local Government Area.
Mutfwang said the individual he described as the leader of one of the attacks was in custody, while legal proceedings against suspects were continuing.
“By the grace of God, the leader of that attack is in our net, and we are continuing to put people on trial,” he said.
According to the governor, security agencies had intensified operations against criminal groups in recent months.
Mutfwang reiterated his administration’s commitment to working with security agencies and local communities to improve intelligence gathering, strengthen security and prevent further violence.
His appeal comes amid renewed concerns over attacks on communities in Plateau State, where residents have repeatedly faced threats to their safety.
The governor maintained that those responsible for the latest incident would be pursued and brought before the law, while urging residents to cooperate with authorities by sharing credible information that could assist investigations.
