The Nigeria Football Federation is not to be blamed for the unpaid salaries of Super Eagles coach Jose Peseiro according to a board member of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).

Peseiro hasn’t been paid his monthly salary of around $70,000 a month for a period of over three months, which means by FIFA laws he can decide to terminate his contract and walk away from the job just five months after he took over as coach.

Reacting to the story about the situation of the coach, a board member of the NFF said it’s unfair to blame the football body for the inability to settle the wages of the coach, when they are not responsible for it.

“You have to look back to when he was appointed as coach. The minister for youths and sports categorically told the NFF that the federal government of Nigeria will be responsible for his salary. Since we deposited his contract at their office, they haven’t gotten back to us and you know we have a new board that is just settling down to work,” he told OwnGoalNigeria.com.

His statement made us to dig deep and we found a press release from the office of the minister, where he stated that he has gotten approval from the president of Nigeria for the salary of the foreign coach of the Super Eagles to be handled by the federal government of Nigeria.

“The Ministry’s position is hard and fast that Nigeria deserves the best gaffer at this stage to help with rebuilding the national team and not just anyone will do.

“The Ministry to avoid the challenge of funds to pay the adviser has since approached Mr. President and secured approval for the Federal Government to now pay the salaries of the coach.

“All NFF needs to do is pick a solid coach and forward the contract and salary document to the Federal Government through the Ministry,” the statement on the 14th of May reads in part.
