Olori Omoba: FCMB boss, Ladi Balogun, fuels controversy (Video)

In what seemed like an endorsement of a controversy raised after the pronouncement of the new Olori Omoba of Akile Ijebu, the son of the late title holder and Chief Executive Officer of First City Monument Bank, FCMB, Ladi Balogun, has added his voice over the weekend.

Recall that at the recent Ojude Oba Festival held in the town, the Awujale of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona, announced the popular Fuji czar, Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, as the new Olori Omoba of Ijebuland, a title held by the founder of FCMB, Otunba Subomi Balogun, until his death.

Ever since the announcement, many Nigerians have expressed diverse opinions about the development.

Some argued that the monarch should have exercised some patience until late Otunba Balogun is buried before announcing a new title holder.

While some section of the society were of the opinion that the replacement is not well suited to such an exalted position because of his profession as a musician.

However, at the burial event of the late flamboyant business guru, his son, Ladi, made a statement, which some believed may further fuel the controversy.

While eulogising his late dad, he said, “He carried many titles; group chairman, grandmaster, Otunba, the Asiwaju of Ijebu Christians, the Olori Omoba Akile Ijebu.”

“There are other Olori Omobas, but then there is ‘the’ Olori Omoba. If you know, you know.”

This generated a rousing applause from those present at the burial ceremony and a sharp reaction from Nigerians.

While some believed the statement by Ladi was unnecessary, others still believed it was too early to appoint another.

“If you say Agemo couldn’t take place because Subomi was not buried, so how come you bestowed his title to someone else without being buried🤔,” someone asked.
