A great loss to Nigeria, says OGD as fmr governor mourns Gen Oladipo Diya

The former governor of Ogun State and newly elected senator, representing Ogun East, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, has joined numerous Nigerians to mourn the passage of former Chief of General Staff, Donaldson Oladipo Diya.

Recall that the former CGS died in the early hours of Sunday.

His death was announced in a statement by his son, Prince Oyesinmilola Diya, on Sunday morning.

“On behalf of the entire Diya family home and abroad; We announce the passing on to Glory of our dear Husband,Father, Grandfather, brother, Lt- General Donaldson Oladipo Oyeyinka Diya (Rtd) GCON, LLB, BL, PSC, FSS, mni.

“Our dear Daddy passed onto glory in the early hours of 26th March 2023. Please keep us in your prayers as we mourn his demise in this period. Further announcements will be made public in due course,” Prince Diya said.

OGD, as the former governor is fondly called, described the late Diya as an illustrious son of Ogun State, who played active roles in the affairs of the nation.

“The demise of General Oladipo (rtd), is a great loss to our country, Nigeria and to Ogun State in particular.

“General Diya, as Chief of General Staff played his part as a Military strategist and his stabilising role during the military era can never be forgotten. As Military Administrator of Ogun State, he was exemplary in the enforcement of the War Against Indiscipline with focus on a cleaner environment.

“He will surely be missed by a lot of people for different reasons and especially for his statesmanship.

“I share in the grief of his family members and by friends and associates. I had close personal experiences and relationships with General Diya in and out of public office.

“I pray for his repose to get eternal rest in the bosom of his Creator as I pray for strength for his family to be able to bear this painful exit.”

Diya, who was Chief of General Staff under the late Head of State, General Sani Abacha, would have been 79years old in April, this year.
