A walk down memory lane: Otunba Gbenga Daniel’s remarkable conferment in 1991 (Photos)

In a nostalgic reminisce, a significant chapter of Otunba Gbenga Daniel’s illustrious journey in public service comes to light, as a throwback to 1991 resurfaces.

The distinguished Senator and his wife, Yeye Olufunke Daniel, were honoured with the titles of Fesojoye and Yeye Fesojoye of The Source, Ile Ife, in a grand conferment ceremony presided over by His Imperial Majesty, Alaiyeluwa Ooni Okunade Sijuade, Olubuse II, CFR.

The notable event, which took place in 1991, saw the presence of esteemed dignitaries, including HRM Oba Adedapo Tejuoso, The Osile of Oke Ona Egba; Niyi Ayeni; Yomi Fadojutimi; Tayo Ayeni of Skymit Motors; Demola Odutola, and Late Chief Tola Olujobi, the then Executive Director of Ogilvy Benson & Mata, a leading advertising company at the time. Also in attendance was Mrs. Taiwo Obasanjo.

The conferment ceremony, steeped in tradition and cultural significance, honoured Otunba Gbenga Daniel and his wife with the prestigious titles, marking a momentous occasion in their lives.

The historical photograph captured the essence of the event, showcasing the reigning automobile of the time, a Mercedes Benz with the distinctive license plate LA 5805 KK.

This walk down memory lane not only sheds light on Otunba Gbenga Daniel’s deep-rooted connection to cultural and traditional honours but also underscores the historical significance of the ceremony that unfolded in 1991.

The photographs serves as a testament to the enduring legacy of Otunba Gbenga Daniel and his continuous contributions to the cultural fabric of Nigeria.

Otunba Daniel, now a serving senator representing Ogun East District, is the owner of Krestal Laurel, an electro-mechanical engineering company he started in 1990. He is also the founder of Conference Hotels with branches in Ijebu-Ode, Sagamu, Abeokuta and Isheri part of Lagos.

Through a landmark victory, he was elected a governor to lead the people of Ogun between 2003 to 2011, and the achievements recorded during his two-term leadership are still being talked about till today.

He got the chance to serve his people again when he clinched the All Progressives Congress’ ticket at the primary election by polling 450 votes to defeat the incumbent, Lekan Mustapha, who polled 29 votes.

Otunba Daniel went on to win the general election by beating other contenders mercilessly, polling with 115,147 votes, while the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) came second in the senatorial election, polling 58,708 votes and the Labour Party (LP) followed with 13,061 votes in 2023.
