Abia fatal accident arrest confirmed as police detain suspect over crash that killed an Abia State University student on the Okigwe–Afikpo Expressway

The Abia State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of one suspect in connection with a fatal road accident that claimed the life of Ifeanyi Mmesoma Miracle, a 200-level student of Abia State University, on Sunday along the Okigwe–Afikpo Expressway in Uturu.

Abia fatal accident arrest follows a tragic incident that has sparked public concern after a viral video circulated online showing the victim’s lifeless body at the scene.

Police Public Relations Officer Maureen Chioma Chinaka confirmed the development on Monday, stating that the crash involved two motorcycles which collided head-on, throwing passengers onto the roadway before the situation turned deadly.

According to Maureen Chioma Chinaka, the impact of the collision led to Ifeanyi Mmesoma Miracle being run over by an oncoming Mack truck, resulting in her death.

“The command is aware of the incident, which occurred at the Water Board area of Uturu on April 19, 2026,” Maureen Chioma Chinaka said. “Two motorcycles were involved in a head-on collision, causing passengers to be thrown onto the road. This led to the death of Miss Ifeanyi Mmesoma Miracle, who was run over by a moving Mack truck.”

The police spokesperson added that officers from the Motor Traffic Department were immediately deployed to the scene to manage the situation and begin preliminary investigations.

Injured victims from the crash were taken to a medical facility, where they are currently receiving treatment and responding positively, according to the police update.

Maureen Chioma Chinaka further confirmed that the remains of the deceased student have been released to her family following official confirmation of death by a medical doctor.

She also disclosed that both motorcycles and the Mack truck involved in the fatal accident have been recovered and taken into police custody as part of ongoing investigations.

One suspect is currently being held in connection with the incident, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend two additional individuals believed to be involved.

The Abia fatal accident arrest has intensified calls for improved road safety measures along the busy Okigwe–Afikpo corridor, which has witnessed a series of serious crashes in recent years.
