The gubernatorial candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the last election, Hon. Ladi Adebutu, has taken a swipe at Ogun State governor, Dapo Abiodun, asserting that political titan and the Nigerian president, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, “belongs to everybody.”

Adebutu made these remarks during the grand End of the Year party he hosted for thousands of enthusiastic PDP members in Abeokuta, the capital of Ogun State, recently.

Speculations have been rife about Adebutu considering a switch to the All Progressives Congress (APC) upon reclaiming his mandate, with the purported intention of fortifying the support base for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the South West.

During the last presidential elections, Abiodun’s stance was noticeably in opposition to Asiwaju Tinubu’s aspirations. Not only did Abiodun oppose the president during the APC primaries, but he was also accused of deliberate sabotage by withholding resources and logistical support for the Presidential elections.

The verbal jabs thrown by Adebutu underscore the complex political dynamics within the state and the broader context of the power play between key political figures.

While addressing his audience in Yoruba in the video that has since gone viral on social media, Adebutu also promised that he would hand over power back to the local government once he reclaims his mandate.

“You voted because you want your local government back, you wanted economical relief? The relief has come and I’m the one,” he stated while his audience chorused in agreement.

Dapo Abiodun, who sought for second term in the last election, was declared winner of the controversial election defeating Adebutu by a mere 13,000 votes; a feat regarded as disappointing and unworthy of a sitting governor seeking reelection.

Many political commentators believe a governor that indeed performed in his first term would have enjoyed the empathy of his citizens beyond what he was alleged to have scored.
