Afrobeats Nominees 2026 feature Burna Boy, Wizkid and Rema alongside MOLIY and Tyla as the genre continues its global rise

Leading global Afrobeats stars Burna Boy, Wizkid, and Rema have emerged among the top contenders in this year’s major music nominations, underscoring the genre’s continued international expansion and influence.

The announcement places Burna Boy, Wizkid, and Rema alongside fast-rising acts such as Ghanaian-American singer MOLIY and South African star Tyla, forming a competitive and diverse lineup that reflects the evolving face of global Afrobeats.

2026 Afrobeats Nominee List category highlights both established powerhouses and emerging voices, reinforcing how the genre has matured into a worldwide cultural force spanning multiple continents.

Tyla’s presence is particularly notable following her historic win at the 2025 edition of the awards, where she clinched Favorite Afrobeats Artist ahead of industry heavyweights including Wizkid, Rema, Tems, and Asake.

Her breakthrough victory marked a defining moment for South African representation within the Afrobeats ecosystem, further expanding the genre’s continental reach.

Wizkid also retains a historic legacy in the category, having become the first-ever recipient of the Favorite Afrobeats Artist award in 2022, setting the standard for future contenders.

This year’s nominations not only spotlight individual achievements but also underline the rapid globalisation of Afrobeats, as new-generation artists continue to reshape its sound, identity, and international appeal.

Beyond competition, the category reflects a broader narrative of growth, signalling how Afrobeats has transitioned from a regional sound to a dominant global music movement.
