Rampaging armed herders wreaking havoc in Nigeria’s middle belt State of Benue have kill at least twelve persons in fresh attacks.

The attacks happened in Anyiin and other communities such as Ayilamo, Iorza and Gbeji in Logo Local Government Area of the state.

Many locals also sustained various degrees of injuries during the attacks that were reportedly carried out by suspected Fulani herdsmen.

The renewed attacks which were unprovoked began last Monday with the killing of three innocent persons, Freelanews quoted a local privy to the development as saying.

The source further added that the killings continued up to Wednesday and Sunday with about 9 persons losing their lives.

According to the fleeing eyewitness, apart from invading houses, the attackers laid siege to Anyiin, Iorza and Gbeji in broad daylight, blocked the roads, killing more people and collecting various sums of money from helpless villagers.

He implored the Benue State Government to provide security for the defenseless people of Anyiin and its environs who are currently under severe attack.

According to him, the herdsmen carried out the attacks on a daily basis in the last two weeks without interruption from security operatives.

Confirming the attacks while speaking with journalists, the Benue State Police Command Spokesperson, SP Sewuese Anene, said the command had deployed personnel to maintain peace in the troubled communities and called on affected people to remain calm.
