Ahmed Aliyu vehicle donation NUJ highlights governor’s support for journalists and commitment to media collaboration in Sokoto State
Sokoto State Governor Ahmed Aliyu has approved the donation of an official vehicle to the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Sokoto State Council, in a move aimed at strengthening collaboration with media practitioners.

The governor made the announcement on Thursday during a special Iftar at the Government House in Sokoto.
The event brought together journalists, social media influencers and senior government officials to deepen dialogue on governance and information dissemination.
Chairman of the NUJ in the state, Usman Binji, commended the administration’s performance across key sectors. He described the government as focused and people-oriented.
Binji highlighted progress in education, healthcare, security and rural development.
He cited the ongoing construction of markets in Bodinga as evidence of economic foresight and inclusive growth.
He also praised the prompt payment of salaries, describing it as a driver of economic stability and support for families.
While acknowledging the administration’s efforts, Binji appealed for further support for journalists.
He requested an official vehicle, rehabilitation of the NUJ Press Centre and inclusion of NUJ leadership in relevant government committees.
Responding, Ahmed Aliyu emphasised the critical role of the media in sustaining democracy and accountability. He described journalists as vital partners in promoting transparency.
Announcing the decision, the governor said he had approved the provision of an official vehicle to support the council’s operations and enhance efficiency.
On other requests, he assured that due process would be followed, adding that matters concerning the Press Centre and committee inclusion would be handled through appropriate government channels.
Ahmed Aliyu also reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to press freedom and responsible engagement with both traditional and digital media.
Also speaking, Abdullahi Hashimu, Chairman of the Sokoto State Social Media Organisation, stressed the growing influence of digital platforms and urged sustained engagement with online stakeholders.

The event featured the presentation of an Award of Appreciation to the governor by the NUJ, recognising his support for the media and commitment to good governance.
