First Bank MD Oluwasegun Alebiosu received an Alebiosu bullets threat at his Lagos residence when an envelope containing two live bullets was delivered by a dispatch rider, prompting police investigation

The Managing Director of First Bank, Oluwasegun Alebiosu, received a disturbing package containing two live bullets at his residence in Lagos on Monday, June 22, 2026, the Lagos State Commissioner of Police Fatai Tijani has disclosed.

Security personnel at the residence accepted the envelope, which had been delivered by a dispatch rider and marked confidential, before handing it directly to Alebiosu as it was addressed to him personally.

Upon opening the parcel, the bank chief discovered two live bullets inside with no accompanying letter or message identifying the sender.

Mr Tijani confirmed the incident while addressing journalists, describing it as a serious security matter under active investigation by the command.

The development has raised concerns about targeted intimidation of high-profile figures in Nigeria’s financial sector.

Oluwasegun Alebiosu, a seasoned banker with decades of experience leading one of Nigeria’s largest financial institutions, has not issued a public statement on the incident.

The police have appealed for credible information that could assist in tracing the sender.

Such threats are not entirely new in Nigeria’s corporate landscape, where business leaders occasionally face harassment amid economic pressures and disputes.

However, the use of live ammunition in an anonymous package marks a troubling escalation that has drawn attention from security agencies.

The Lagos State Police Command has vowed to deploy all necessary resources to unravel the circumstances and ensure the safety of the First Bank chief and his family.

This incident occurs against a backdrop of intensified efforts by the police to combat violent crime and illegal firearms proliferation in the state.

Mr Tijani assured that investigations are progressing swiftly, with the package secured for forensic analysis.

The episode serves as a stark reminder of the personal risks shouldered by leaders in critical sectors as they navigate Nigeria’s complex business environment.
