Join AmalaHangOutWithTolu 3.0 in Hull on 6 Sept 2025! Celebrate Nigerian culture with Amala, Akara, and more. Tickets from £15. Book now!

AmalaHangOutWithTolu is back with another vibrant celebration of food and culture, as the third edition is set to hold on 6 September 2025 at Humber All Nations Alliance (HANA), Portland Street, Hull.

This year’s gathering, tagged the Amala and Akara Edition, promises to be bigger and more exciting, kicking off at 1pm prompt.

Toolz, founder of AmalaHangOutWithTolu, explained the heart behind the initiative. She noted that it began as a way to bring friends together while far away from home, but has since evolved into a cultural celebration.

“I realised I didn’t just want to serve food, I wanted to serve a piece of home, a taste of nostalgia, and a reminder of our roots. Amala is more than just a meal; it’s culture on a plate, it’s family plus friends around the table, it’s memories wrapped in Gbegiri and Ewedu,” she said.

What started as a gathering of 19 friends with a “Rich Aunty Vibes” theme has now grown into a community event that attracts Nigerians in the UK who miss home and seek to celebrate their heritage.

Toolz added that the bigger dream is to see AmalaHangOutWithTolu evolve into a full African food festival in the UK.

“One day, I want to see this grow into a full-on African food festival right here in the UK with different dishes, cooking demonstrations, and of course, endless Amala for everyone.

“Every time I think about this, and how huge and almost impossible it seems, I’m reminded of a big God who is able to do exceedingly, abundantly, above all that we can ask or imagine. Won’t He do it?” she said with passion.

Access fee for singles is £15, while couples will have their fill at just £25.
