Governor Soludo’s ANSEC enforces measures to tackle Anambra

Governor Soludo’s ANSEC enforces measures to tackle Anambra erosion crisis, recover lands, and award strategic projects for state development

Anambra State Executive Council (ANSEC), under Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo, has launched a decisive campaign to tackle the growing erosion crisis in the state, while also recovering government lands and awarding strategic development projects. The announcement followed the 25th ANSEC meeting at the Lighthouse, Awka.

Commissioner for Information, Law Mefor, highlighted the council’s concern over the existential threat posed by erosion, citing communities and regulatory bodies that have disregarded environmental regulations.

“The council has decided to step up enforcement measures to compel individuals to manage stormwater from their properties and for communities to adhere to specific guidelines, including constructing erosion barriers and restricting sand excavation to designated locations,” Mefor stated. He warned that non-compliance would attract stern government action.

ANSEC will enforce strict environmental regulations, mandate erosion barrier construction, monitor sand excavation, and collaborate with relevant agencies to hold responsible parties accountable.

Mefor expressed confidence that, with public support, the state could overcome these challenges and achieve its vision of becoming a thriving economic and business hub.

The council also resolved to form a committee to reclaim government lands illegally occupied or built upon. “The government will not stand idly by while its lands are being grabbed and misused. All necessary steps will be taken to recover these lands for the benefit of Anambra citizens,” Mefor added.

In addition to environmental and land management actions, ANSEC approved several strategic projects to enhance infrastructure and public amenities.

Key initiatives include supplying water to the Ekwulobia Flyover Bridge Fountain, landscaping an ornamental garden for Double NC Construction & Logistics Ltd, and installing a three-way traffic light with pedestrian signals at the Ifite-Amenyi intersection in Awka for S.N.U. Ventures.

Other projects involve installing two 10 kVA inverters with 15 kW lithium batteries at the Anambra State Civil Service Commission Building for Kennolly Enterprises, supplying transformer substations at Nnewi and Umueze-Anam communities for Aries and Gold Ventures Ltd and Aljovic Construction Ltd, and landscaping the car park at the Trauma Centre, Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital, Amaku, Awka, for Triseconds Resources Ltd.

Governor Soludo’s administration emphasises that these actions, combining environmental enforcement, land recovery, and infrastructure development, are central to safeguarding Anambra State’s future and improving the quality of life for its residents.
