Anambra police officer baby death case sparks investigation as command arrests officer linked to three-month-old child’s death

The Anambra State Police Command has arrested one of its officers over alleged involvement in the death of a three-month-old baby in Okija, authorities confirmed on Friday.

In a statement issued by the command’s spokesperson, Tochukwu Ikenga, the police said the officer had been identified and taken into custody, although the identity of the suspect was withheld due to the ongoing investigation.

The Anambra police officer baby death case has triggered public concern in the state, with the command announcing a full-scale investigation into the circumstances surrounding the tragic incident.

According to Tochukwu Ikenga, the officer is currently undergoing interrogation and other administrative procedures in line with disciplinary processes of the Nigeria Police Force.

“The Anambra State Police Command confirms that the police officer allegedly connected with the unfortunate incident that resulted in the death of a three-month-old baby in Okija has been identified and taken into custody,” the statement said.

The Commissioner of Police, Ikioye Orutugu, expressed deep regret over the incident and sympathised with the family of the deceased child.

Ikioye Orutugu assured residents that the command would handle the matter with professionalism, transparency and fairness, while ensuring that justice is served if culpability is established.

The command also appealed to members of the public to remain calm and avoid actions capable of escalating tension within the community.

Police authorities stressed that no individual found responsible for wrongdoing would be protected from prosecution or disciplinary action.

The statement added that further updates would be provided as investigations into the Anambra police officer baby death incident progress.
