A forum of political and cultural organisations under the aegis of Arewa Next Step for Tinubu (ANEST) has commended President Muhammadu Buhari for his stance and actions on June 12, which it said has strengthened the unity of the country.

Speaking on Friday in Abuja at a June 12 rally and distribution of palliatives to some vulnerable Nigerians, the forum, said that it is to the credit of President Buhari and all Nigerians that the country is making a value for what happened 27 years ago and which has deepened democracy in the country.

The Director General of the forum, Hon. Aminu Sulieman, represented by his deputy, Hon. Musa Abubakar Usman, said that ANEST is an association of progressives in the North who shares in the aspirations and world view of the National Leader of the All Progressive Congress (APC) and former Lagos state Governor, Asiwaju Ahmed Bola Tinubu.

“On this auspicious day of June 12, we congratulate the father of the Nation, President Muhammadu Buhari, and the APC, for steering the ship of the Nation aright.

“We congratulate him for upholding the tenets of democracy; the Rule of Law, accountability, transparency and free and fair elections. This, has made it possible for our Democracy to survive thus far.

“We further wish to commend the President for listening to the popular views of Nigerians by replacing May 29 of every year with June 12, as Democracy Day.

“For doing this, the President has clearly aligned himself with feelings and believes of the people that the latter day was more meaningful than the former.

“June 12, most Nigerians believe, has become a watershed in the annal of Nigeria democratic journey that must be assuaged and recognized in order to heal the wounds of Nigerians who genuinely felt aggrieved by the way it went,” Usman who also listed the achievements of the Buhari administration across the country said.

He, however urged Senator Tinubu, to heed the call of reasons by being committed to the 2023 project in the interest of the country.

“Asiwaju Tinubu, who is the Jagaban of Borgu, was one of those key Nigerians who put their all on the line to ensure that Democracy berths in Nigeria. We recall that under his leadership as Governor of Lagos State, many Nigerians got the opportunity to showcase their leadership quality irrespective of ethnic and religious background.

“He exemplified the position of Lagos state as a mini Nigeria. It is for this and many other reasons that we, as an association, thought it wise to identify with the vulnerable in the society by distributing some token of palliative, hoping that it would be enough to put smiles on the faces of the beneficiaries,” he added.
