Brig.-Gen. Bernard Onyeuko, Acting Director, Defence Media Operations, has been promoted to Major-General by the Nigerian Armed Forces.

234 additional military people were also promoted.

The promotion came just a week after rumors circulated that the Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Lucky Irabor, had ordered at least 50 senior generals to retire forcibly.

According to reports, the promotions were announced last night following a meeting of the Army Council, Navy Council, and Air Council convened at the Ministry of Defence with the presiding chairman being the Minister of Defence, Maj.-Gen. Bashir Magashi (Rtd).

Our correspondent learned that the Nigerian Army promoted 36 officers to Major-Generals from Brigadier-Generals, while 76 Colonels were promoted to Brigadier Generals in the most recent promotion.
