APC Ogun East senatorial primary violence allegation as Gbenga Daniel loyalists warn of intimidation and voter suppression ahead of May 18 exercise

Fresh tension has gripped the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Ogun State ahead of its Ogun East senatorial primary, following allegations of planned violence and voter intimidation raised by loyalists of former Governor Gbenga Daniel.

Violence allegation emerges ahead of APC Ogun East senatorial primary was contained in a petition dated May 13, 2026, and addressed to the APC National Chairman, Nentawe Yilwatda.

The group, operating under the umbrella of concerned APC stakeholders in Ogun East Senatorial District, accused allies of Governor Dapo Abiodun of orchestrating intimidation and harassment against perceived supporters of Gbenga Daniel across the nine local government areas of the district.

According to the petitioners, several party members loyal to Daniel have been allegedly barred from attending ward meetings, with claims that the actions were directed by certain party executives aligned with the state leadership.

They further alleged that threats were being issued to discourage participation in the forthcoming direct primary scheduled for May 18, describing the situation as a serious breach of democratic principles and the APC constitution.

The group also raised concerns over alleged intelligence suggesting plans to deploy thugs to disrupt voting at designated centres, warning that such actions could lead to violence, voter suppression and breakdown of law and order.

The petitioners urged the APC national leadership to intervene urgently, insisting that failure to act could undermine the credibility of the party and public confidence in the electoral process.

They also called on the Ogun State APC Chairman, Yemi Sanusi, alongside security agencies including the police, DSS and NSCDC, to investigate the allegations and ensure adequate security during the primary across the 103 wards in the senatorial district.

Efforts to obtain reactions from the Ogun State Government and APC leadership in the state were unsuccessful at the time of filing this report.
