Sunday Ukeme, a 32-year-old married man, was detained by officers from the Akodo Police Division in Lagos for defiling a neighbor’s daughter.
The incident took place at about 10:30 on September 20, 2021 in Idaso town, Ibeju Lekki, after the suspect’s wife left for vigil in one of the nearby churches.
The victim’s mother had kept her in the custody of the suspect’s wife, Mary Sunday when she (victim’s mother) travelled out of the town for three weeks.
When the victim’s mother returned from the travel, she told her that she had been defiled by the suspect, according to the victim’s mother, who reported the case to the police station.
Detectives promptly detained the culprit after receiving a report from the police station on the 4th of October, 2021.
During questioning, the suspect admitted to the crime. He, on the other hand, appealed for mercy, blaming his humiliating, immoral, and criminal deed on his intoxication.
The victim has since been taken to the hospital for medical attention.
The case has been transferred to the Gender Unit of the State Criminal Investigation Department, Panti for diligent investigation and prosecution on the directive of the Commissioner of Police, CP Hakeem Odumosu.
The Commissioner of Police while promising to protect every girl child and other vulnerable persons in the state, vows to prosecute such paedophiles with unbridled sexual urge for minors.
