Suspected armed robbers, still unnamed, robbed several Point-of-Sale operators at Aroma Junction in Awka, the Anambra State capital, on Sunday, 4 October 2026, taking cash in daylight before leaving in a commercial tricycle.
CCTV of the raid has circulated since Monday. The footage shows the men arriving in a keke, moving between stands, and departing through afternoon traffic.

The attackers brandished firearms and forced operators to hand over takings. Passers-by scattered.
The exact number of suspects, the sum stolen and whether anyone was injured have not been independently established.
Aroma Junction is one of the busiest trading points in Awka. POS agents there handle withdrawals and transfers for residents who rely on them in place of a bank branch, and often hold large amounts of naira. That cash has made the stands a repeated target.
An eyewitness said the situation was getting out of hand, and that the criminals now operate without any fear.
Residents described the raid as the third recent attack on POS businesses in the immediate area, though that claim has not been independently established.
The Anambra State Police Command had not, by 5 October, issued a statement on this incident or confirmed any arrest.
Traders called for more patrols and a stronger community security presence at major junctions. On 6 October the command was dealing with a separate Onitsha case, after Commissioner of Police Nnanna Oji Ama ordered a probe into an armed robbery suspect who allegedly went missing from the 3-3 Police Station. That inquiry is not linked to the Aroma Junction raid.
For the operators, the loss is immediate. A day’s receipts can be the float for the next morning’s customers.

Until police identify the men in the footage, the case of armed gunmen who rob Awka POS operators remains a viral clip, an unconfirmed cash figure, and a junction still waiting for a named suspect.
