Arsenal 2-2 Wolves draw sees late own goal deny Mikel Arteta’s side, cutting their Premier League lead at the top

Arsenal F.C. saw their Premier League title ambitions dented on Wednesday evening after being held to a dramatic 2-2 draw by Wolverhampton Wanderers F.C. at Molineux Stadium.

Mikel Arteta’s side, who began the night as league leaders with a seven-point cushion over Manchester City F.C., appeared firmly in control after racing into a two-goal advantage.

Bukayo Saka, fresh from signing a new long-term contract, opened the scoring early in the first half with a composed finish that ended a prolonged goal drought.

The visitors doubled their lead shortly after the restart when Piero Hincapié found the net, seemingly putting the contest beyond a Wolves side rooted to the foot of the table.

Yet the match turned decisively in the hosts’ favour as resilience replaced resignation. Hugo Bueno reduced the deficit around the hour mark, galvanising both teammates and supporters.

The closing stages proved frantic. Deep into stoppage time, debutant Tom Edozie saw a late effort deflect off Riccardo Calafiori and into the net for a dramatic own goal that levelled the scores at 2-2.

The Arsenal 2-2 Wolves Draw represents a significant setback in an increasingly tense title race.

The dropped points trimmed Arsenal’s lead at the summit to five points, offering renewed encouragement to Manchester City, who have games in hand.

Despite dominating possession and carving out numerous chances, Arsenal were undone by defensive lapses in the dying moments, a harsh reminder of the unforgiving margins at the top of English football.

For Wolves, the draw could prove invaluable in their battle against relegation.

The performance demonstrated grit and opportunism, delivering a morale-boosting result in what has otherwise been a challenging campaign.

Arsenal remain top of the table on 58 points from 27 matches, but the manner of the result will sting as the race for a first Premier League title in over two decades enters its decisive stretch.
