Bauchi orders an urgent school shutdown citing rising security concerns. The Bauchi school shutdown affects all institutions statewide

BAUCHI, Sunday – The Bauchi State Government has ordered the immediate closure of all schools across the state, citing heightened security concerns affecting pupils, teachers and entire school communities.

The directive covers every primary, secondary and tertiary institution, including Federal Government-owned and privately run schools operating within Bauchi.

The announcement was issued by the Information and Public Relations Officer of the State Ministry of Education, Jalaludeen Usman, who said the government reached the decision after extensive consultations with security agencies.

Usman described the move as a necessary response to what he called overwhelming threats to the safety of learners and staff.

He acknowledged the disruption that the Bauchi school shutdown would cause but said the administration’s overriding priority was protecting children.

He stressed that every pupil in the state deserved to learn in an environment that is safe, stable and free from fear.

Usman appealed to parents, guardians and school proprietors to remain calm while government agencies work to stabilise the situation.

He said ongoing cooperation with security operatives aimed to resolve the underlying concerns and allow academic activities to resume as soon as conditions permit.

Residents were urged to remain vigilant and provide timely information to authorities, with Usman emphasising the critical role community reporting plays in preventing attacks.

The statewide closure follows a series of abductions of schoolchildren in Kebbi and Niger in recent days, incidents that have heightened anxiety across northern Nigeria.

The Federal Government had also ordered the temporary shutdown of 41 unity colleges on Friday in response to the growing threat.

Usman said further updates would be issued as the situation develops.
