Former Big Brother Naija housemate, Anita Akide, popularly known as Tacha, finds herself entangled in legal proceedings as she faces charges of disorderly behavior and turning the Murtala Muhammed International Airport into a public nuisance. The trial, which came to light after two years of quiet criminal proceedings, is taking place at a magistrate’s court in the Ogba area of Lagos.

The charges stem from an incident in May 2021 when Tacha allegedly created chaos during an encounter with health officials at the airport. The Lagos State Government accuses her of leading other passengers to resist the officials, violating the state’s public health and broader criminal laws.

Tacha was arraigned in August 2021, pleading not guilty to the two counts filed against her. The trial commenced on November 18, 2021, with the prosecution presenting its witnesses against her. After the prosecution closed its case, Tacha’s legal team filed a no-case submission, asserting the lack of credible evidence to support the charges.

Despite the defense’s plea to dismiss the case, the magistrate ordered Tacha to enter her defense. The trial has since progressed, with Tacha opening and closing her defense. Parties were directed to file their final written addresses, and the hearing for the adoption of these addresses was scheduled for Friday.

During the recent proceedings, the prosecutor requested an adjournment until March 4, citing the need to respond to a filing from Tacha’s legal team received on the same day. While the magistrate expressed concerns about the lengthy adjournment, she eventually granted the request, setting March 14 for the adoption of final written addresses and potentially the judgment.

Tacha faces two counts related to the alleged incident at the airport, charged with conducting herself in a manner injurious to public health and behaving disorderly by resisting health officials. The verdict is anticipated after the adoption of final written addresses in March.
