Black Koko Opens Up on Trauma

Black Koko trauma: Stylist Fred Ebikeme recounts violent attacks and societal struggles as a feminine boy during podcast interview

Stylist and makeup artist Fred Ebikeme, popularly known as Black Koko, has opened up about his experiences of violence and societal intolerance as a feminine boy, revealing that he was once beaten by men wielding pieces of wood.

Black Koko spoke candidly during an appearance on *The Clarity Show* hosted by Nedu Wazobia, describing some of the severe hardships faced by feminine boys and entertainers navigating a society often hostile to non-conforming identities.

The socialite recounted that he and others have been subjected to attacks for their lifestyle, alleging that many feminine boys endure both physical abuse during the day and exploitation at night. He shared memories of visiting Mushin to deliver food to feminine boys living in the area, noting that some face abuse while others are coerced into unlawful activities.

Black Koko further claimed that some entertainers present a conventional image publicly while leading entirely different lives privately, attending parties in feminine attire at night before resuming socially acceptable appearances by day.

Fans and social media users reacted strongly to the interview. Some criticised his lifestyle, while others highlighted the emotional weight of his account, noting his repeated wiping of tears during the discussion.

This revelation comes amid rising awareness of the dangers faced by gender-nonconforming individuals in Nigeria, echoing similar reports of assaults on crossdressers, such as a recent case in Yaba where an individual named Emeka was beaten and later required medical attention.

The stylist urged society to recognise the realities of feminine boys and entertainers, advocating for greater tolerance and protection for vulnerable individuals facing abuse.
