Bovi Sets Exciting Lagos Finale for ‘Guilty as Charged’

Award-winning Nigerian comedian, actor and writer Bovi Ugboma will bring his 2026 world tour to a close at the Eko Convention Centre, Eko Hotel & Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos, on Sunday, October 11, with his latest stand-up production, “Bovi: Guilty as Charged”.

Bovi, speaking to journalists at a press conference at the Lavender Room of Eko Hotel on Tuesday, October 6, said the show will open its doors at 6pm and begin at 7pm, with the evening expected to run until about 10pm.

The Lagos performance will serve as the final stop of a tour that has taken Bovi through the United Kingdom and Canada before returning to Nigeria for its homecoming stretch.

The Nigerian leg began in Benin City on October 1, with Lagos providing the closing performance.

The international leg began in the UK during the Easter period, where Bovi performed at Indigo at The O2 in London.

The tour subsequently moved to Canada, where he performed in six cities, including Toronto, Calgary and Edmonton. Reports said all six Canadian shows sold out.

For Bovi, “Guilty as Charged” continues a creative approach he has used in previous productions, with each show built around a central theme that shapes the material.

He explained that this edition takes an accusatory look at behaviours, events and issues that have shaped Nigerian life over the past year, while keeping the central objective firmly rooted in comedy.

“Everything you can think of that has happened in the last one year… everything is on the table,” Bovi said.

Politics could also feature in the material as Nigeria moves towards another election cycle, although Bovi stressed the importance of understanding the boundary between comedy and personal insults.

The comedian said comedians have a responsibility to know when they are making jokes and when their material risks becoming an attack on individuals.

The Lagos finale will also introduce a significant change to the traditional experience of attending one of Bovi’s shows.

For the first time, every ticket holder will have an allocated seat, with customers able to select their preferred positions online when purchasing their tickets.

Bovi said the move was the result of several years of efforts to improve the audience experience, particularly by allowing guests to know where they will sit before arriving at the venue.

The show will also provide a platform for emerging comedians.

Bovi said several younger performers will appear as opening acts, giving them an opportunity to warm up the audience before his headline performance.

“I’m featuring many young comics, young in career or young in age, or young in one or both, as opening acts for me to prep the audience before I come in,” he said.

A surprise guest is also expected, although Bovi has deliberately kept the identity under wraps.

He described the guest as a friend who is good at what he does and said the appearance would be more of a visit than a shift in focus away from the main show.

That decision reflects Bovi’s approach to his headline productions, where he prefers to keep the spotlight on his own performance after audiences have paid specifically to see him.

The Lagos show follows a significant period for Bovi, whose career has stretched across stand-up comedy, television and film for nearly two decades.

Productions including “Bovi: Man on Fire” and “Naughty by Nature” have helped establish him as one of Nigeria’s most recognisable stand-up comedians.

His 2026 tour has also provided another illustration of the growing reach of Nigerian comedy beyond the domestic market, with performances across Europe and North America before the production returned to Nigeria.

With the Benin City leg already completed, the October 11 performance in Lagos now represents the final chapter of “Guilty as Charged” and the culmination of Bovi’s 2026 world tour.

The show is scheduled for Sunday, October 11, at the Eko Convention Centre, with doors opening at 6pm and the performance beginning at 7pm. The official ticketing platform confirms that Lagos is the final remaining date of the tour.
