Abule Egba Explosion 2

An explosion from a suspected Improvised Explosive Device (IED) has reportedly led to the deaths of six people in Katsina state.

The incident was said to have occurred on Saturday, July 18, at Yanmama village in Malumfashi local government area of Katsina, Daily Nigerian reported.

Sources said the explosion occurred when people working on the farm dug up the device.

The Nation newspaper said five other people who became unconscious as a result of the blast were rushed to the General Hospital Malumfashi for treatment.

Meanwhile, Muhammad Makama, the divisional police officer for Dutsinma in Katsina state, on the night of Friday, July 17, led ”Operation Puff Adder” to Kwantawama village in Dutsinma local government of the state, to arrest a notorious kidnap kingpin and rescue 14 female victims.

The nation reports that the spokesman of the Katsina state police command, SP Gambo Isah, in a statement issued said that the operation was spurred by a report that bandits numbering about 40, riding on motorcycles and armed with AK 47 rifles, attacked the village.

We gathered that he noted that operatives of the state police command chased after the hoodlums into the fringes of the famous and dreaded Rugu forest and engaged them in a gun duel.

In another report, the Emir of Daura, Katsina state, Dr Umar Farouk Umar, has stated that what Nigeria is experiencing now in terms of insecurity is worse than civil war. Dr Umar, who is the emir of President Muhammadu Buhari’s community, made the comment when the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General Tukur Buratai, visited him in his palace.

The emir called for the same approach used in tackling the civil war to tackle the raging insecurity in Nigeria

While advising Buratai to remain resolute, focused and shun distracting comments, the emir commended the Nigerian Army and its leadership for its efforts to contain the myriad of security challenges in Nigeria and in Katsina state, in particular.

Dr Farouk used the occasion to thank the Nigerian Army for setting up a Forward Operating Base (FOB) and a battalion in Daura town, to enhance response to security threats in the area and surrounding communities. Nigeria continues to face mounting insecurity issues across the country despite assurances of safety for citizens by security chiefs.
