Burna Boy sets a record as the most-certified African artist in New Zealand with 16 plaques, including a gold for ‘WGFT’ featuring Gunna

Nigerian superstar Burna Boy has extended his global influence, setting a new record as the most-certified African musician in New Zealand.

The Port Harcourt-born artist received a gold certification for WGFT, his collaboration with American rapper Gunna, bringing his total tally in New Zealand to 16 plaques a feat unmatched by any other African artist in the country.

Burna Boy has previously earned three 6x platinum certifications for international hits including Last Last; Location, featuring Nigerian-British rapper Dave; Own It, with British hip-hop star Stormzy; Be Honest, featuring Jorja Smith; his 2018 breakout single YE; and It’s Plenty from his 2023 album Love, Damini.

In addition, he has collected 10 gold plaques for fan favourites such as Sittin’ On Top Of The World, City Boys, Real Life, featuring Stormzy, and Alone from the Black Panther: Wakanda Forever soundtrack.

These singles have enjoyed widespread commercial success in New Zealand, further cementing his international appeal.

This achievement underscores Burna Boy’s role as a global ambassador for Afrobeats, highlighting the genre’s growing influence beyond Africa.

His international success is also evident through sold-out concerts across Europe and the United States, where audiences continue to celebrate his distinctive sound and electrifying performances.
