UEFA has introduced special Champions League debut patches for players making their first appearances in the competition during the 2026/27 season.

The new initiative, agreed between UEFA and Fanatics, will see first-time Champions League players wear the distinctive patches on their shirt sleeves when they make their competition debuts.

The Champions League debut patches will feature the word “debut” incorporated into UEFA’s iconic starball logo, giving players a visible marker of their first appearance on European football’s biggest club stage.

The initiative will also create a lasting memento of the players’ milestone.

After each match, the debut patch will be removed from the player’s jersey and sent to Topps, the trading card company owned by Fanatics.

Topps will then incorporate the patch into a unique, player-signed trading card.

The patches will be authenticated before the cards are released, adding a collectible dimension to the new UEFA initiative.

Players who enter a match as substitutes and subsequently make their first Champions League appearance will also qualify for the special patches.

However, being named among the substitutes will not be enough to earn one.

Players who are included in a matchday squad but remain unused substitutes will have to wait until they actually take the field in the competition before receiving the debut recognition.

The move gives UEFA a new way to celebrate an important career milestone while also linking the live match experience with the growing football collectibles market.

For players stepping onto the Champions League stage for the first time, the patch will provide an immediate symbol of the occasion, while its eventual transformation into a signed trading card will preserve the moment beyond matchday.
