A 33-year-old man, Temitope Ganiyu, has been remanded in a correctional facility after appearing before an Ota Magistrates’ Court in Ogun State over allegations of assaulting police officers and damaging property.

The Court remands Ogun man after Ganiyu was arraigned on Friday on a three-count charge bordering on assault, malicious damage and conduct likely to cause a breach of the peace.

According to the prosecution, the incident occurred at the Ota Divisional Police Headquarters, where Ganiyu allegedly assaulted ASP Badejo Taofeek while the officer was carrying out his official duties.

Prosecuting counsel ASP E.O. Adaraloye told the court that the defendant allegedly dragged the officer on the ground and tore his uniform during the altercation.

The prosecutor further alleged that Ganiyu assaulted another police officer, Florence Adedapo, and conducted himself in a manner capable of causing a breach of public peace.

Adaraloye also accused the defendant of maliciously damaging a Samsung A07 Android phone valued at ₦210,000 during the incident.

Ganiyu, whose residential address was not disclosed in court, pleaded not guilty to all the charges.

After hearing the matter, Magistrate O.O. Fadairo ordered that the defendant be remanded in a correctional centre pending further proceedings.
