The former OnlyFans model pleaded guilty to manslaughter in the 2022 stabbing death of Nigerian Christian Obumseli and received five years’ probation

Former OnlyFans model Courtney Clenney, 30, was sentenced to six years in prison in Miami, Florida, on Monday, August 10, 2026, after pleading guilty to manslaughter with a deadly weapon in the 2022 killing of her Nigerian boyfriend, Christian Obumseli.

The sentence brings an end to a case that remained in the public spotlight for more than four years and had initially centred on a second-degree murder charge.

Under the plea agreement, Clenney will also serve five years of probation after her release.

She receives credit for nearly four years already spent in custody, meaning she is expected to serve roughly two additional years behind bars before beginning probation.

Clenney pleaded guilty to the amended manslaughter charge on Monday, accepting criminal responsibility for the fatal stabbing of Obumseli inside the Miami apartment they shared.

Miami-Dade prosecutor Shawn Abuhoff told the court that the plea represented Clenney accepting responsibility for what happened.

“She is taking criminal responsibility for her action, the state is willing to accept her plea,” Abuhoff said.

Obumseli, 27, was fatally stabbed on April 3, 2022, inside the couple’s Miami apartment. Clenney was arrested in Hawaii days later and was initially charged with second-degree murder with a deadly weapon.

From the beginning, Clenney maintained that she had acted in self-defence during a confrontation with Obumseli.

Her lawyers had argued that Obumseli was abusive and that Clenney threw a knife towards him while attempting to protect herself. Prosecutors disputed that account and presented evidence about what they described as a troubled relationship marked by repeated conflict.

The plea agreement replaced the second-degree murder charge with manslaughter with a deadly weapon, bringing the anticipated murder trial to an end.

The case had attracted widespread attention partly because of Clenney’s public profile. She was also known online as Courtney Tailor and had built a substantial social media following before her arrest. (CBS News)

Obumseli’s family addressed the court during Monday’s sentencing, speaking about the lasting impact of his death.

His mother, Ocio Obumseli, described the loss as something the family continues to carry.

“The loss of Christian did not end April 4; we carry it with us every day,” she said.

She also addressed her late son directly, saying: “Christian, your legacy and your memory will remain with us. We miss you, we love you; may you continue to rest in peace, my son.”

The family’s attorney, Larry Handfield, said accountability had been a central concern for Obumseli’s relatives throughout the case.

“What the family wanted was accountability,” Handfield said.

Miami-Dade State Attorney Katherine Fernandez Rundle also said the agreement allowed Obumseli’s family to hear Clenney accept responsibility for his death.

The plea agreement was reached in consultation with and with the approval of the family, according to People.

The sentence carries additional conditions beyond imprisonment and probation. Clenney will be required to undergo mental health and substance abuse evaluations and treatment after her release.

Prosecutors have also said she will not be allowed to financially benefit from the case.

The criminal proceedings followed a lengthy legal battle over whether the case would proceed to trial on the original murder charge. As recently as July, Clenney’s lawyers were seeking to introduce evidence they said supported her claim of self-defence, including medical records, text messages, police material and testimony from domestic violence experts.

Clenney’s position throughout the case was that she had been protecting herself, while Obumseli’s family rejected the portrayal of him as an abuser.

The conflicting accounts of the relationship and the circumstances surrounding the stabbing became central to the legal dispute.

The guilty plea means those competing accounts will not be tested in the anticipated second-degree murder trial.

Instead, Clenney will serve the remainder of the six-year sentence before beginning her five years of probation.

For Obumseli’s family, the conclusion provides a measure of closure after more than four years of legal proceedings and public attention.

For Clenney, the plea resolves the criminal case on a substantially reduced charge from the second-degree murder allegation that originally brought her before the courts.

The final sentence therefore closes one of the most closely watched Miami homicide cases of recent years, while leaving Obumseli’s family to continue grieving a loss they say has permanently changed their lives.
