Globacom, a Nigerian telecommunications company, says it has commenced national Identification number (NIN) registration exercise in its retail outlets across the country.

In a statement issued on Friday, in Lagos, the telco said it had begun enrolment of eligible citizens after securing a Nigerian Identity Management Commission (NIMC) licence for NIN enrolment.

“We have deployed devices aligned with NIMC standards across several Gloworld outlets and are making immediate arrangements for our other centres across the country to commence. Our objective is to create more opportunities for Nigerians who are yet to enroll for their NIN to do so more conveniently,” the statement read.

It added that subscribers who already have their NIN but are yet to link them with their mobile numbers can do so by simply texting their NIN to 109.

They can also submit their NIN for SIM linkage by dialling *109# or call 109 to update their NIN via voice call.

The federal government (FG) had extended the deadline for NIN- SIM linkage to February 9, 2021.

Earlier, the FG had issued a two- week ultimatum for telco subscribers to update their SIM registration with a valid NIN.

The deadline was then extended by three weeks to January 19, 2021, for subscribers with NIN to link it with their SIM cards and February 9, 2021, for those without NIN.
