Dangote promises ₦100k IPO could grow 10x

Aliko Dangote, President of Dangote Group, said a Dangote ₦100k IPO investment in the Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals public offer could potentially grow to about ₦1 million within one to two years, highlighting what he described as a compelling opportunity for Nigerian investors.

Aliko Dangote made the remark during an interview with Arise Television while discussing the refinery’s ongoing Initial Public Offering, which has already attracted significant attention across retail and institutional markets.

The projection, which implies a tenfold return within a relatively short period, has drawn both excitement and scrutiny, as market analysts note that such growth would depend on a mix of strong operational performance, favourable market conditions and sustained investor confidence.

“If you invest something like ₦100,000, within one year, two years or so, you are talking about becoming a millionaire,” Aliko Dangote said, underscoring the ambitious outlook tied to the refinery’s future earnings potential.

Aliko Dangote also pointed to dollar-denominated dividend payments as a key advantage for investors, particularly in an environment where currency volatility remains a concern.

He explained that such payouts could offer a form of protection against naira depreciation, especially for families with international financial commitments such as education.

Perfect-Aesthetic-social-1

The Dangote ₦100k IPO investment narrative comes at a time when the Securities and Exchange Commission has issued a firm advisory urging Nigerians to exercise caution.

The regulator warned prospective investors to avoid fraudulent schemes and to subscribe only through authorised channels, approved platforms and verified agents.

The public offer, valued at approximately ₦2.15 trillion, opened on September 14, 2026, and is already being described as one of Africa’s largest capital market events.

Early demand has been robust, reflecting widespread interest in the refinery, which is positioned as a transformative asset in Nigeria’s energy and industrial landscape.

While the optimism surrounding the offer is undeniable, financial experts emphasise that equity investments inherently carry risks, and projected returns are not guaranteed.

The balance between opportunity and caution remains central as investors weigh the refinery’s long-term prospects against prevailing economic realities.

The development also follows a broader push by the Dangote Group to democratise ownership of the refinery, allowing ordinary Nigerians to participate in what has historically been a large-scale private industrial venture.

As the subscription window continues, the interplay between investor enthusiasm and regulatory oversight is likely to shape the outcome of the offer, with the refinery’s performance in the coming years set to determine whether such bold projections translate into tangible returns.
