Davido Grammy 2026 loss sparks outrage among fans, though supporters highlight his global impact and lasting musical legacy

Fans of Nigerian Afrobeats star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, have expressed disappointment following his loss at the 68th annual Grammy Awards held at the Crypto.com Arena.

Davido, nominated in the Best African Music Performance category for his collaboration with Omah Lay on “With You,” lost to South African singer Tyla, who won with her viral track “Push 2 Start.”

Other nominees included Burna Boy, Ayra Starr, Wizkid, Eddy Kenzo, and Mehran Matin.

The defeat, the second consecutive year Davido has been edged out by Tyla, triggered widespread reactions on social media, with many Nigerian fans alleging that the “Unavailable” crooner was unfairly overlooked.

Twitter users voiced frustration at the outcome, criticising the Recording Academy and questioning the credibility of the Grammy Awards.

Comments ranged from claims that Nigerian artistes were being sidelined to calls for a reassessment of submissions to international award platforms.

Despite the backlash, numerous supporters emphasised that Grammy recognition does not define Davido’s success, status, or global influence.

Many lauded his consistency, impact and contribution to African and international music.

Fans highlighted that his continued success, fan loyalty and cultural influence outweigh the lack of an award, urging critics to respect his achievements.

Social media users encouraged him to focus on creating music and building on his legacy rather than dwelling on the snub.

The Grammy ceremony, hosted for the sixth consecutive time by South African comedian Trevor Noah, further spotlighted the growing presence of African music on the global stage, even as some fans voiced disappointment over the results.
