Davido journalism dream revealed as the Afrobeats star shares why he avoided politics during a recent livestream

Afrobeats global superstar David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has revealed that he would likely have pursued a career in journalism if he had not found success in music, while also distancing himself from any immediate political ambitions.

Speaking during a recent Twitch livestream with streamer Davrel, the award-winning artist said his long-standing interest in storytelling and media could have led him into reporting or documentary work.

“I like movies. I like watching movies. I would have been a journalist,” Davido said, pointing to a fascination with human interest narratives that might have placed him behind a camera or newsroom desk.

The disclosure, now drawing attention online, adds a compelling dimension to the Davido journalism dream narrative, highlighting a creative path that contrasts sharply with his chart-topping music career.

During the conversation, Davido also addressed speculation about a potential move into politics, a topic that has followed him due to his public support for his uncle, Ademola Adeleke.

The singer said his earlier interest in politics has waned, citing the complex and often unforgiving nature of the field.

“Before, I wanted to go into politics, but honestly, now, I see it two ways,” Davido explained.

“All my years of goodwill, my name and my career… it is tricky.”

He added that several entertainers who ventured into politics struggled to maintain their influence, reinforcing his cautious stance.

“I feel like if you are a politician, you are a politician. It is their business,” he said.

Davido emphasised his desire to protect the legacy he has built over the past decade, noting that the high-stakes political environment could jeopardise the broad appeal and goodwill he currently enjoys across diverse audiences.

The remarks have since sparked conversations among fans, with many praising the singer’s candid reflection and measured approach to his future.
