Davido Seyi Tinubu friendship clarified as singer denies political ties and insists he can criticise government despite personal relations

Nigerian Afrobeats star Davido has clarified his relationship with Seyi Tinubu following public criticism over his comments on insecurity in Nigeria, insisting that their friendship is personal and not political.

The singer addressed the controversy on social media after being accused of belonging to a political circle due to his long-standing relationship with Seyi Tinubu.

Davido dismissed the claims, stating that he is not part of any political group and that his friendship does not stop him from speaking out on national issues.

He explained that he has consistently engaged government officials and friends in authority privately, while also speaking publicly when necessary.

According to him, criticism of the government should not be misunderstood as political opposition or affiliation with any group.

In a strongly worded post on X, formerly Twitter, Davido also reflected on the broader issue of insecurity and urged entertainers and public figures to speak up more boldly.

He wrote, “I can’t lie, we entertainers, we dey fuck up, I wouldn’t lie, including me. We need to speak up, it’s too much injustice going on. Our country don go.”

The statement highlighted his frustration with the worsening insecurity situation and what he described as growing injustice in the country.

Davido also addressed the backlash he received after earlier comments on insecurity, noting that public reactions have often been mixed and emotionally charged.

He maintained that his relationship with Seyi Tinubu has remained unchanged for years and is based on personal friendship rather than political alignment.

The friendship debate gained traction online after some critics questioned his neutrality following his comments on national security challenges.

Despite the controversy, the singer reaffirmed his commitment to speaking out, stressing that silence from influential voices only deepens public frustration.

His remarks continue to generate discussion on the role of entertainers in national discourse and the fine line between friendship, influence and political perception.
