Delta child abuse arrest: Police detain suspect in Okpe LGA over alleged assault of eight-year-old girl. Investigation underway
The Nigeria Police Force in Delta State has arrested a man identified as Ugbome Ifeanyi Thompson over the alleged sexual abuse of his landlord’s eight year old daughter in Okpe Local Government Area.

Human rights activist Comrade Israel Joe disclosed the development in a Facebook post on Sunday, February 15, 2026.
According to Comrade Israel Joe, the suspect allegedly assaulted the minor on multiple occasions and threatened her to prevent disclosure. Comrade Israel Joe stated that the child’s father is currently ill.
Police authorities confirmed that the suspect has been detained at Orerokpe Police Station.
The Divisional Police Officer, CSP Paul, is said to have initiated steps to transfer the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department of the Delta State Police Command for further investigation and possible prosecution.
Sources familiar with the matter said the case is being treated as sensitive, given the age of the victim and the nature of the allegations.
The Delta child abuse arrest has sparked outrage among residents, with calls for thorough investigation and justice.
