In a recent statement, the spokesperson of the Delta State Police Command, DSP Bright Edafe, has cautioned Nigerians to exercise caution with the popular slogan, “no gree for anybody.” DSP Edafe emphasized that the police force is issuing this warning out of concern and considers Nigerians as friends.

Through a post on his social media handle, DSP Bright Edafe highlighted a specific scenario to underscore the potential consequences of the slogan. He stated, “If someone slaps you, and you retaliate, and the person falls and dies, it won’t be treated as self-defense. Instead, it will be treated as unintentional murder (manslaughter), depending on the outcome of the autopsy to ascertain the cause of death.”

DSP Edafe expressed certainty that the individual responsible for the unintentional death would face legal consequences, likely leading to imprisonment. He reiterates the importance of being mindful of the popular slogan, emphasizing that the police are delivering this message because they care for the safety and well-being of the citizens.

The warning serves as a reminder that actions undertaken with the intent of self-defense may inadvertently result in severe legal consequences, particularly if the outcome leads to the loss of life. DSP Bright Edafe urged citizens to exercise caution and avoid embracing the “no gree for anybody” mentality in situations that could potentially escalate.
