DSS Takes Over Malami Terrorism Case

DSS appoints SAN Akinlolu Kehinde to prosecute ex-AGF Malami and son over terrorism financing; trial adjourned to April 15, 2026

The Department of State Services (DSS) has appointed Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) Akinlolu Kehinde to prosecute former Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, and his son, Abdulaziz Malami, over allegations of terrorism financing and unlawful possession of firearms.

At Tuesday’s proceedings before Justice Joyce Abdulmalik, Kehinde informed the court that he had just received instructions to take over the case and requested time to confer with witnesses.

The counsel for the defendants, Mr. Shuaibu Arua, SAN, did not oppose the adjournment, leading the court to reschedule the trial to April 15, 2026.

The charges, marked FHC/ABJ/CR/63/2026, allege that Malami failed to prosecute suspected terrorism financiers while serving as AGF and Minister of Justice.

Counts two to five accuse Malami and his son of unlawfully possessing a Sturm Magnum 17-0101 firearm, 16 Redstar AAA 5.20 live cartridges, and 27 expended cartridges, contrary to the Terrorism (Prevention and Prohibition) Act, 2022 and the Firearms Act, 2004.
