EandC legal launches bold founder support initiative

EandC Legal, led by Founder and Lead Partner Omoruyi Uyilaw Edoigiawerie, on September 30, 2026, launched The Founder Room at the firm’s headquarters in Ikoyi, Lagos, creating a private support platform focused on the health, wellbeing and business realities of startup founders.

The inaugural gathering, held under the theme “The Things We Don’t Talk About”, brought together a select group of founders for candid conversations about pressures that often remain outside the public startup narrative.

Unlike conventional business conferences and networking events, The Founder Room centred on issues including uncertainty, isolation, difficult partnerships, fear of failure, family pressures, health and the expectation that founders should remain composed while carrying the responsibilities of employees, investors and customers.

“The startup ecosystem is very good at asking founders about revenue, growth, funding and traction. We do not ask often enough about the person carrying the business,” Edoigiawerie said.

“The Founder Room was created to change that. Strong businesses cannot be built indefinitely by broken people. The founder matters too,” he added.

The programme was led by Dr Ikenna Onyebuchi, a consultant medical practitioner and public health specialist, who delivered a session titled “Managing the Body That Builds the Business”.

His presentation examined the physical demands of entrepreneurship and encouraged founders to pay closer attention to stress, rest, nutrition, movement and other factors that can influence long-term wellbeing and decision-making.

The initiative went beyond discussion, with a medical team providing health and vital-sign checks alongside individual consultations for participating founders.

Private mental health therapy sessions were also made available, with the sessions conducted confidentially away from the main gathering.

Participants subsequently shared experiences around difficult business relationships, the burden of responsibility, isolation, uncertainty and the pressure to project control even during challenging periods.

The confidential format allowed founders to speak, listen or reflect without the conventional pressures associated with public business events.

“What happened in the room confirmed that founders do not always need another panel or lecture,” Edoigiawerie said. “Sometimes, they need a trusted room, professional guidance and the reassurance that they are not carrying the journey alone.”

The gathering also featured a practical legal component through The Founder Legal Clinic, where participating founders received complimentary legal advisory sessions and access to legal templates designed to strengthen their corporate, governance and legal structures.

The evening concluded with dinner, providing an informal setting for participants to continue conversations that began during the sessions.

For EandC Legal, the initiative builds on the firm’s experience working within Nigeria’s startup ecosystem.

The firm says it has worked with more than 1,000 founders and helped build more than 300 startups.

That experience, according to the firm, has highlighted how closely legal, operational, financial and personal challenges can intersect.

A disagreement between co-founders, for instance, can extend beyond a legal dispute to create financial, operational and emotional pressures.

Similarly, prolonged stress can influence a founder’s judgement, relationships and ability to lead effectively.

Ade Adekeye, Co-founder and Managing Partner of EandC Legal, said the initiative was created in response to these interconnected realities.

The objective, she explained, is not to establish another networking event but to provide an intervention that considers the founder as a whole, recognising that sustainable companies also depend on healthy relationships, sound structures and resilient leadership.

EandC Legal plans to hold The Founder Room every two months, with future editions expected to address other difficult and often overlooked issues affecting founders and high-growth businesses.

The initiative arrives as Africa’s startup ecosystem continues to expand its support infrastructure around funding, accelerators, technical assistance, mentorship and market access.

However, The Founder Room takes a different approach by shifting some attention from the performance of the company to the person responsible for building it.

For an ecosystem often driven by conversations around fundraising, valuations, expansion and exits, EandC Legal’s initiative makes a compelling case for a broader definition of startup support, one that considers not only how far a business can grow, but also the wellbeing and capacity of the founder building it.
