EFCC cyber fraud academy arrest sees 31 suspects detained in Abuja over alleged internet fraud training at a Karu facility

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Thursday, April 9, 2026, arrested 31 suspected internet fraudsters during a raid on a facility described as a cybercrime training academy located at Becki Estate in Karu, within the Federal Capital Territory.

EFCC arrest the internet fraud academy crackdown involved two alleged leaders and several interns who were reportedly undergoing structured training in internet fraud activities at the time of the operation.

According to the commission, officers recovered mobile phones, 18 laptops, and other electronic devices believed to have been used in the alleged cybercrime training process.

Preliminary findings suggested that the facility operated in a highly restricted environment, where trainees were allegedly confined within the premises, had their movements limited, and were cut off from external communication after their mobile phones were confiscated.

EFCC captured the cyber fraud academy and further revealed allegations that some of the interns were recruited from Benue State under the guise of job opportunities.

Upon arrival, they were allegedly introduced to computers, software tools, and structured instructions linked to cyber fraud operations.

The anti-graft agency also alleged that some trainees faced physical punishment for failing to comply with internal rules, raising concerns over coercion within the facility.

In a statement shared via its official Facebook page, the EFCC confirmed that investigations are ongoing and that all suspects will be charged in court upon completion of inquiries.
