EKSU hostel attack causes panic in Ado-Ekiti as gunmen raid student hostels, steal valuables, and prompt police response

Suspected armed men on Monday night launched a violent attack on off-campus hostels housing students of Ekiti State University, triggering widespread panic as residents fled their rooms in search of safety.

Eyewitness accounts and student reports indicate that the attackers stormed the Phase 2 area of the university community, moving from one hostel to another while dispossessing students of personal belongings, including mobile phones, laptops, and cash. The incident reportedly occurred late at night, leaving many students in fear and confusion.

The EKSU hostel attack has been described by students as both terrifying and recurring, with some alleging that similar incidents had taken place over several days. One student, identified via social media, raised alarm over the situation, calling for urgent attention as academic activities and exam preparations were disrupted.

The growing tension prompted calls from students for increased security presence around the university environment. Many urged relevant authorities to intensify patrols and implement stronger preventive measures to protect lives and property within the area.

Confirming the incident, spokesperson for the Ekiti State Police Command, Abutu Sunday, stated that a suspect has been arrested in connection with the attack and is currently under investigation. He added that security measures have been put in place to prevent a recurrence.
