Emeka Ike data breach lawsuit seeks N10bn damages from INEC and Lere Olayinka over alleged violation of personal data privacy

Nollywood actor Emeka Ike has instituted a N10 billion lawsuit against the Independent National Electoral Commission and Lere Olayinka, alleging a breach of his personal data privacy.

The suit, marked FHC/ABJ/CS/1272/2026, was filed before the Federal High Court in Abuja on Monday, June 15, 2026.

According to court filings, the actor is challenging what he describes as the unlawful use and exposure of his personal information, an action he claims violated his constitutional and statutory rights to privacy and data protection.

The Emeka Ike Data Breach Lawsuit names INEC and Olayinka, a media aide to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, as defendants in the matter.

While details of the alleged breach were not immediately available at the time of filing, the actor is seeking N10 billion in damages for what he contends were violations of his personal data rights.

The case is expected to test legal protections surrounding personal information and data privacy in Nigeria, an area that has attracted increasing public attention following the implementation of data protection regulations in recent years.

Legal observers note that the outcome could provide further judicial guidance on the responsibilities of public institutions and individuals regarding the handling and disclosure of personal information.
