‘Not true’ What we received isn’t Russian COVID-19 vaccine sample, FG makes u-turn

Contrary to reports that Nigeria had received samples of Russia’s COVID-19 vaccine, Minister of Health, Osagie Ehanire, says the country only received an aide-memoire, not a vaccine sample.

The ministry, which agreed that it erred in the information it pushed out to the media, explained that the courtesy visit by the Russian Ambassador to Nigeria, Alexey Shebarshin, was for the handling over an aide-memoire to the Nigerian health authorities.

Ehanire revealed this in a press statement signed by the Director, Information, Media and Public Relation, Olujimi Oyetomi.

According to the statement, the aide memoir would enable the Nigerian team study and get ready for further researches, patronage and application.

“The Russian-made COVID-19 being still in the custody of the Russian Federation’s Embassy in Nigeria, we have been corrected, to see it as still being with the Russians and not with the Nigerian health authorities,” the statement read.
