The Federal Government has disbursed ₦1.1 billion in additional exit benefits to 175 retirees who left the public service between January and August 2026, reinforcing its commitment to improving the welfare of retired civil servants.

The payment was made under the Federal Government Exit Benefit Scheme, a support initiative designed to provide eligible retirees with additional financial assistance beyond their statutory retirement entitlements.

According to the government, the beneficiaries comprise former public servants who completed their service during the first eight months of 2026 and met the requirements for the scheme.

The Exit Benefit Scheme was introduced to cushion the financial transition from active service to retirement, recognising the economic pressures many retirees face after leaving government employment.

Officials said the latest disbursement reflects ongoing efforts to ensure that eligible retirees receive their benefits promptly while strengthening confidence in the Federal Government’s retirement support framework.

The ₦1.1 billion payment is expected to provide immediate financial relief for the 175 beneficiaries, many of whom are transitioning into post-service life after decades of service in the public sector.
