Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier and a multi-agency law enforcement task force recovered 163 missing children across Florida and several other jurisdictions on August 25, 2026, in what authorities described as the first statewide child recovery operation of its kind in the state.
The children, aged between two months and 17 years, were recovered during Operation Statewide Shield, a five-day investigation led by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement alongside law enforcement and child welfare agencies.

The operation extended beyond Florida, with children located across six other US states, Puerto Rico and 12 foreign countries, including Brazil, Canada, Colombia, Ghana, Jamaica, Mexico, Spain and Taiwan.
Authorities said many of the recovered children were considered vulnerable to human trafficking or exploitation. Officials, however, have not said that every child recovered during the operation was a trafficking victim.
The scale of the operation was particularly significant in the Tampa Bay area, where 46 children were recovered. Another 41 were located in Miami, 32 in Jacksonville, 21 in Orlando, 12 in Fort Myers, eight in Pensacola and three in Tallahassee.
Following their recovery, the children were taken to specialised hubs where they could receive medical care, social services, child welfare support and assistance from victim advocates.
The operation also resulted in three arrests as investigators continued examining individual cases.
Michael Prescott was arrested by the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office on August 21. According to authorities, Prescott faces three counts of lewd and lascivious acts with a minor, felony battery and aggravated assault. Authorities also said he had an active warrant for interference with child custody.
Robert Ferral Allison was arrested by the Lee County Sheriff’s Office on August 20 and charged with lewd and lascivious battery involving a victim aged between 12 and 16, according to authorities.
Jayden Allen Harwood was also arrested on allegations of interference in a child custody case and resisting an officer without violence.
The arrests are connected to investigations arising from the wider operation. Authorities have not alleged that the three suspects were responsible for all 163 children recovered, and further arrests or charges could follow.
Uthmeier’s office said investigators were continuing efforts to identify individuals who may be connected to broader trafficking or exploitation networks.
The five-day operation was developed using strategies from previous federal investigations, including Operations Dragon Eye and Home for the Holidays. Law enforcement agencies worked alongside child welfare professionals and social service providers to locate missing children and assess their immediate needs.
The international reach of the operation also highlighted the complexity of missing-child investigations. Recoveries were recorded in countries including Finland, Guatemala, Italy, Taiwan and Dominica, demonstrating how cases involving vulnerable children can cross state and national borders.
Authorities have not released the total number of criminal charges expected from the investigation. Officials have indicated that additional arrests could be made as investigators examine evidence gathered during the operation.
Uthmeier has said prosecutors will pursue severe penalties in cases involving child sexual abuse, including the death penalty where it is legally applicable.
For families, the most immediate significance of the operation was the return of children who had been reported missing and the opportunity to connect them with professional support.
The Florida child rescue operation represents a major law enforcement effort, but authorities say the work is far from finished.

Investigators must now determine what happened in individual cases, establish whether wider criminal networks were involved and ensure recovered children receive the protection and care they need.
