A foreign resident in Lagos praises Nigeria’s banking system for instant transfers and innovative services, noting it outpaces European banks

A foreign resident in Lagos has expressed surprise at the speed and efficiency of Nigeria’s banking system, comparing it favourably to European counterparts.

Speaking to local media, the resident said, “I didn’t realize how behind we are in Europe. While the EU only recently pushed banks into instant SEPA transfers, Nigeria has been doing instant transfers for years — money lands in seconds. And you can even borrow data here.”

The resident, whose work and lifestyle depend on quick financial transactions, highlighted how Nigerian banks have embraced technology to streamline payments and credit facilities, giving customers a seamless experience.

Financial analysts note that Nigeria’s instant transfer systems, including the popular NIP and instant mobile banking platforms, have long enabled near real-time fund movement, reflecting rapid adoption of digital banking solutions across the country.
