Retired Deputy Inspector-General of Police Frank Mba has launched his law firm, Frank Mba Legal, in Wuse 2, Abuja, as former Inspectors-General of Police Mohammed Dahiru Abubakar and Usman Alkali Baba, Minister of Foreign Affairs Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu and other dignitaries gathered to celebrate his birthday and transition into private legal practice on Friday, 9 October 2026.

The unveiling marked a new chapter for Mba, who retired from the Nigeria Police Force in March 2026 after 34 years of service spanning policing, public communication, training and institutional leadership.

The ceremony attracted prominent figures from government, law enforcement, business and religious circles.

Other guests included Pastor Jerry Eze, convener of the New Season Prophetic Prayers and Declarations (NSPPD); Chief Emeka Offor, chairman of Chrome Group; and retired Deputy Inspectors-General of Police Sadiq Abubakar, Tijani Baba and Dan Kwara.

Speaking at the event, Mba said the decision to establish his law firm was motivated by his desire to continue contributing to society by applying his experience in policing, legal training and public service to the practice of law.

“Retirement is not the end of service; it is an opportunity to serve in a different capacity,” he said.

Mba explained that his years in the police had equipped him with experience in leadership, discipline, conflict management and the administration of justice, which he intends to bring into his new professional role.

“For me, the law is not merely a profession; it is an instrument for protecting rights, resolving disputes, upholding justice and strengthening confidence in our institutions,” he said.

He added that the firm aimed to build a trusted legal practice grounded in professional conduct and service to clients.

Mba’s move into private practice builds on a legal career that began alongside his policing journey.

He obtained a Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of Lagos, attended the Nigerian Law School and was called to the Nigerian Bar in 2002.

He subsequently earned a Master of Laws degree from the University of Dundee in Scotland, graduating with distinction.

During his 34-year police career, Mba served three times as Force Public Relations Officer, becoming a prominent figure in police communication and public engagement.

He also served as Police Public Relations Officer in Lagos State and Commissioner of Police in Ogun State.

In his later years in the force, he was responsible for the Department of Training and Development at Force Headquarters, contributing to the professional development of police personnel.

His career also included international service as a member of Nigeria’s police contingent to the United Nations Mission in Liberia between 2006 and 2007, for which he received a United Nations Medal.

Mba’s transition reflects a continuation of his legal and public-service interests rather than an entirely new professional direction.

His formal legal qualifications predate his retirement, allowing him to move into private practice after leaving the police.

The presence of former police chiefs and serving senior officers at the unveiling underscored the significance of the occasion within his professional network, while the attendance of political, business and religious figures broadened the gathering beyond the policing community.

For Mba, the launch of Frank Mba Legal represents an opportunity to apply lessons from decades of public service to legal practice, with an emphasis on protecting rights, resolving disputes and promoting confidence in institutions.

As he begins this next phase of his career, the former police spokesman is positioning his legal experience and knowledge of public administration as the foundation for continued service outside the force.
