The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has begun an investigation into a fraud allegation leveled against the Managing Director of Kano Road and Traffic Agency (KAROTA), Baffa Baba Dan’agundi,.
This was in response to a petition submitted to the commission by some agency employees alleging fraudulent activities by the KAROTA boss.
The petition, titled “Complaint Letter Against The Managing Director Of Kano Road Traffic Agency (KAROTA) For Corrupt Activities,” alleges that since the managing director’s appointment in 2019, he has authorized the issuance of fake receipts at all zonal offices.
They claimed that the alleged issuance of fake receipts occurred at the agency’s headquarters but not at the agency’s mobile court, where revenue staff from the Kano Internal Revenue Service (KIRS) collect fines.
According to the petition, the MD has been carrying out the act through a man named Shehu, who they claim is his brother and not a Kano State Government official.
When contacted, Ibrahim Garba Kagara, the Resident Commissioner of the ICPC in Kano state, confirmed the existence of such a petition against the KAROTA boss.
He, however, said he could not make further comments on the petition nor provide details as the matter is under investigation.
However, an attempt to hear the reaction of the Managing Director proved abortive as of the time of filing this report.
When contacted, he asked our reporter to send a text but has not responded to the text message sent to him.
