Former Atletico Madrid midfielder Eduardo Salvio is reportedly being hunted by police in Argentina after allegedly injuring his estranged wife when driving his car.
Former Atletico de Madrid midfielder and Argentina international, Eduardo Salvio is reportedly on the run from police in his homeland after allegedly injuring his estranged wife.
Model Magali Aravena is said to have told police the footballer ran her over in his car after she found him in the vehicle with another woman and tried to approach him. She is believed to have suffered a leg injury which did not require hospital treatment.
The incident she reported to police is said to have occurred just after midnight in the upmarket Buenos Aires waterfront neighbourhood of Puerto Madero.
Local reports said the early hours incident which police are now investigating followed an Instagram post by a woman named as Sol Rinaldi, showing the footballer preparing a barbecue.
Magali, who recently moved out of the home she shared with Salvio, is said to have gone to his place in Puerto Madero to confront him about the snap in a fit of jealousy.
Sol is understood to have been in the Mercedes Benz Salvio was driving when the incident occurred and will be interviewed as a witness.
The dyed blonde describes herself as a Boca Junior fan on social media.
Eduardo Salvio is now wanted by police after the incident in the early hours
Grainy video footage has been published on Argentinian news websites showing the moment Magali fell to the ground by Salvio’s vehicle after appearing to be dragged along the road as she clung onto it.
Argentinian press are reporting Salvio, who now plays for top-flight side Boca Juniors, had yet to be located by 8am local time and had been officially classified as a “fugitive from justice.”
Argentinian police have not yet officially said he is a wanted man and he is expected to turn up voluntarily at a police station with his lawyer later today instead of going to training.
A spokesman for a Buenos Aires government-run emergency services coordinator said on Thursday: “Around 1.35am this morning we assisted a woman at a police station who identified herself as Salvio’s ex-wife.
“Medical responders found she had a trauma injury in her lower right leg. She didn’t need to be taken to hospital.”
A police report, cited by respected Argentinian newspaper La Nacion, said: “Police responding to a call found a woman aged 35 who moments earlier said she had been run over in a car by her partner, the footballer Eduardo Salvio, who then fled the scene.”
La Nacion reported Aravena told cops she had been hit in the leg and knocked to the ground after going up to the footballer’s car in an attempt to talk to him.
The model and businesswoman, who has two children with Salvio, announced in December 2020 they were separating after 11 years together.
She said in a social media post: “We feel it is best for both of us. Clearly our priority will always be our marvellous children, their wellbeing and happiness.”
Despite Magali’s announcement, they got back together again a few weeks later but are said to have split again about a week ago.
Salvio’s lawyer Mariano Cuneo Libarona said the footballer was “anxious” to meet with police and offer his version of events.
He said he would attend a police station shortly to give a statement.
The lawyer added: “He will present witnesses, videos and several pieces of evidence that will prove his innocence.
“He’s not guilty of anything.”
Salvio is expected to accuse his estranged wife of threatening him and damaging his car.
